I believe that every pregnant person has within themselves the instinct and the ability to give birth. I help you to get in touch with that instinct and find the strength that you possess. The goal is to build your trust in the process of birth.
I feel that most importantly doulas should provide a sense of nurturing and safety to the parents. This is so crucial in birth and has been proven in studies to lead to a shorter and easier labor. Each person needs different things and it is the doula’s role to meld with those needs and adjust the role as needed. You may need an advocate, a comforter, a shelter, or you may simply need someone who is professionally trained to interpret the world of birth to you. Whatever you need at any stage of your labor, a doula should become, so that you can feel safe enough to go within yourself on her birth journey with peace, trust, and joy.
What is a Doula?
A trained and experienced professional who is an expert in pregnancy and childbirth and postpartum. Doulas provide physical, emotional and informational support to the family before, during and after birth.
Studies have shown that when doulas attend birth,
labors are shorter with fewer complications,
babies are healthier and they breast/chest feed more easily.
Initial consultations are provided free of charge. I attend births in all settings including, hospital, birth center, or home.
All packages include the following elements:
Our prenatal visits are a must, whether it is your first baby or your fifth.
Birth Stories: I start with getting to know you and the birth stories you already hold. Our bodies have multigenerational memories so understanding the birth of yourself, your mother, and any other stories you or your partner have heard.
Fear Release: I will help you release any fears you may have from those stories and focus on the hopes for your own birth.
Relaxation: Together we will discover out of the myriad of options and find the best relaxation techniques for you.
Education: I provide evidence-based, up to date information so that you can make informed decisions about your care. I will help you create a birth plan that is based on your values and choices.
Comfort: You will learn comfort measures and pain relieving techniques for pregnancy and labor. Partners will have opportunities to practice these techniques during prenatal visits.
Talk & Text: From the time you add Nurtured Village to your birth team, you will have access to unlimited contact with your doula. You can do this through phone calls, email, or texting. Providing emotional support and answering your questions with research and evidence-based information is my favorite thing!
Attend your labor and birth
On Call & Ready to Roll: Beginning at 38 weeks (sooner with multiples) I am on call for you 24/7 until you birth your baby. You can relax knowing that I am ready to rush to your side when you need me. You will be joined at any stage of labor that you feel doula support is needed and your care will continue for up to 2 hours after your baby is born.
No Time Limits: Birth is a natural process and I would never want you to feel rushed or pay extra if your birth journey takes longer than you expected.
Bag Of Tricks: I will bring comfort measures including our favorite, the rebozo, as well as aromatherapy, hot/cold compress, acupressure, reiki, craniosacral therapy and more!
Your Way: I support all birthing choices and there is never judgment for use of epidural or other pain medication. I am just as dedicated to a scheduled cesarean as I am a spontaneous vaginal birth. I believe strongly that you know the best way to birth your baby and I support you in following that intuition.
Backup Support: (just in case)- I always have a backup doula in the event of an emergency so you can rest easy knowing that a professional doula will be there no matter what. This will only be used in a true emergency. When I am on call that means that your birth is my number one priority.
It’s your birth and it’s my job to support your choices.
During these visits you will be provided with emotional support, information on newborn care and feeding and a time to discuss your birth experience. Additional postpartum visits with an extra level of care are available in our postpartum packages.
What about my Partner?
I love it when partners are able to attend our prenatal meetings and be part of your birth team. I find great joy in helping the partner understand what is happening in the process and sharing skills and comfort techniques so that they can be a steady and confident support person. Part of doula support is supporting the partner and other family members because when the birthing person has a calm family it makes the journey so much easier.
